Lindisfarne Monastery (793AD), The Holy Island, England 2020

The Lindisfarne Monastery was one of the rich monasteries in England, and was plundered by the vikings in 793.
That was the act that made the vikings known and feared.
From this time forward, all/most of Christianity knew of the savages from The North, and for the next 250 years they spread disaster and misery in large parts of Europe.

To get to The Holy Island, you can go from Edinbourgh by train to Berwick-upon-Tweed, then by bus south along the E15/A1 to Beal Filling Station and Holy Island Road.
There is around 5 km to the monastery from Beal, sometimes there is a bus, you can hitch hike – or you can walk.
Be aware that the road to the Island will be flooded during high tide, and pedestrians/cars/busses can not cross
